Date: Sunday 14 August 2016
Event: Ulster XC Series Round 5 / NPS Round 5
Venue: Davagh Forest, Cookstown, Co. Tyrone
Host club: Carn Wheelers
This event is doubling up as Round 5 of the Ulster XC series and Round 5 of the National Point Series (NPS).
Course Description:
The start/finish area will be in the same car park as previous years. The race course will utilise the natural single track above the car park heading out along the Davagh River across a small wooden bridge (sorry no water splash this year) and out towards Sika Corner and Eagles Rock. This will be the opposite direction to the trail centre so you get to ride a completely new trail in effect. We bypass Eagles Rock using the B-line up to Golan which will be challenging for some – again this is being run in the opposite direction to the trail centre format.
From there it is into the new Deer Trail almost entirely cleared of trees before a quick fire road blast down to the Red Trail over boundary rock (with B-line available). Another quick fire road section and into the short blue trail, nicknamed Alpe D’Heuz, down to the start finish area, again running the opposite way to the normal trail centre direction. A fast course but bring your climbing legs and there are plenty of technical sections to test your skills.
Under 12s will get their own course using the natural section above the start/finish area before riding through the finish area and into the small wood, which will also contain the Under 6, 8 and 10 courses, before using a fast tarmac descent and into the natural trail section again above the start finish area.
