As we are all aware the COVID-19 restrictions has meant lots of events being cancelled over the past 14 months. The Cycling Ulster Off-road Commission (CUORC) has been appealing for clubs to come forward to host cross-country mountain bike races in 2021. Cross-country racing is a sport for all ages. We have Under 6s racing right through to the over 50s.
The commission has had some clubs interested but we haven’t had any definite dates put forward. We appreciate that clubs face challenges with regards to getting a suitable venue, ensuring the event does not make a loss, and getting marshals.
FINANCE
To reiterate, the commission is very willing to support clubs who wish to host races. We are happy to help with the administration and have a financial shortfall package in place. (http://www.offroadcyclingulster.com/2021/02/03/appeal-for-xc-host-clubs/)
VENUES
If you know of a venue that would support off-road cycle racing (that hasn’t been used before), please let us know. We are keen to find venues which don’t require a large amount of volunteers. We can provide some assistance to help scope out a course and help prepare it for race day.
VOLUNTEERS
If you are keen to help support clubs in hosting events and would be happy to volunteer your time for race day, please let us know. This doesn’t commit you to help but would allow us to get in contact with you to see if you are available. Running cross-country events does require a large pool of volunteers (typically 20+). It would be beneficial to have a pool of volunteers to appeal to as most clubs struggle with this challenge.
