The Cycling Ulster Off-road Commission is launching the fourth of their training sessions for Under 14s and 16s on Saturday 7 July 2018 at Davagh Forest. We are delighted to have a visiting coach from British Cycling at the event.
This session is open to all riders in these age categories. Riders to meet at 10 am on site. The morning session will be skills based using the format of the Inter-regional Mountain Bike Championships. NOTE: For this session the skills and hill climb will be set up as it would for the main selection day which takes place on Saturday 21 July . These timed sessions will give the riders a feel for what to expect on selection day but will not form part of a selection process.
The afternoon session will be an escorted practice, with the help of coaches, of the race course that Carn Wheelers is setting up for race day on the Sunday.
The sessions are free of charge but riders are asked to email secretary@offroadcyclingulster.com with their name and club in order to help gauge numbers.
Proposed schedule for the day
• Meet at 10 am
• Skills training until 12 pm (using flat pedals on the bicycles)
• Break for lunch (riders must provide this themselves)
• 12:30 – 14:00 Escorted tour around the race circuit stopping to session certain sections.
Parents are asked to be on site for the day to help support the riders and to see what skills they are learning. Parents can also tag along on the escorted course practice ride.
Riders to bring
Bike, helmet, (warm) cycling gear, drinks and snacks, spares so that the riders are self-sufficient. Riders to also bring along flat pedals and tools to swap pedals back to clip-ins.
