The final session of the youth camp was held at the MTB Trails at Barnett’s Demesne in Belfast
Parents had their own bikes to accompany us on the trail.

Cycling Ulster Off-road Commission – Youth Coaching Sessions
The Off-road Commission plan to run a series of coaching sessions aimed at the U12/U14/U16 age groups. These intermediate level sessions are aimed at existing racers who would like to improve their technical riding skills with the aim of improving their race results. The first two sessions are planned for Saturday 13th June at Davagh trail centre at 9 am and 1 pm. The session will be lead by Mark Harvey, a level 2 Mountainbike Instructors Association coach (MIAS). Each session is limited to six riders and will last approximately 2.5 hours. The cost £3 per rider.
Some of the skill work will be around Rider’s position on the bike, Effects of weight transfer, Braking techniques, Cornering techniques, Line choice, Riding rough, steep, terrain. To register your interest or for more details contact Mark on mark@ulsterxc.com.

Sperrin MTB Sportive 27 July 2014
The Sperrin MTB Sportive promoted by Harps CC will be held on Sunday 27th July 2014. The event gives riders the opportunity to ride both Slieve Gallion open mountain and the Davagh Forest Trails. As per last year, the riders start from Moneymore Recreation Centre before taking on either the 70 km RED route or the 60 km BLUE route. This is a mass start event but is not a race. Registration is now open on Entry Central. The event is open to riders aged 16 or over.

Bike skills Under 14s – Under 16s
Check out the following videos from a bike skills competition (video 1) (video 2)
The off-road commission is looking for club coaches/parents to come forward to learn how to teach the skills in these videos to youth riders 12-16 (male and females).
It is proposed that there will be a regional competition day for youth to show off those skills. Date and venue to be confirmed (Sometime June/July)
Please email Martin to register your interest. There will be a meeting set up for coaches to attend (date and venue to be confirmed).
